Some Small Updates
August 8, 2006, 4:28AM

by: eon

Just a few small-ish things, thought I'd share though, since I haven't in so long.

1. Forums now use the standard [quote] tag familiar to most other platforms (sometimes called "BBCode"). Quoting a post will now seperate the quoted text into a square with a different color and design, making the quote a more obvious seperation from the response. This is a feature common to 99% of modern forum software so most of you will instantly recognize it and go, "Oh, yeah, that!". Previously, our quotes were just put in italics. Yuck.

2. Andromeda members now have the option to force all comments left to them as private. To enable this, go to:

Control Panel -> Experience -> Private Messages -> Force All Private

3. The site was down for a few hours yesterday evening. You may have noticed we're now about 16,000 members lighter. This was just a cleanup of old accounts (accounts not active for 3 months or longer). This cleared a lot of junk from the server and will help your profile searches produce less "dead" profiles in the results.

That's it for now, kids.

107th Annual Burrito Festival
July 31, 2006, 10:34PM

by: Burrito_Cult

Fifteen year old Juanita Lopez was recently crowned Burrito queen at what was Juarez, Mexico's 107th annual Burrito Festival. Juarez is world renowned for its Burritos and many historians and chefs cite it as the most Burrito-friendly capital on earth. Citizens of Juarez have burritos for every meal of the day, so it comes as no surprise that they would have a festival celebrating their most esteemed food.
The festival consisted of a beauty pageant, a wrestling match for the men, a burrito eating contest, and a contest for the biggest burrito. There was also ice cream and soft drinks available for whoever might want refreshment.
Juanita, who had won the beauty pageant, was given a tiara and paraded through the city on a float decorated with crepe paper, flowers, and felt tortillas sewn by local seamstresses.
After the parade, the burrito eating contest was held, with Fernando Hernandez winning after eating twenty-seven burritos in thirty minutes. The runner up was Jesus Sanchez who had eaten went-two burritos in thirty-one minutes.
Then the biggest burrito contest was held. There were many, many burritos, some weighing over five pounds. But the winning burrito was made by Fernando Hernandez's wife, Maria Hernandez. The burrito weighed eight pounds and twelve ounces, was about a food long, and was filled with everything, including beef, chicken, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and various seafood.
After the burrito contest, music was played by a local band and people danced and celebrated. The festival ended with a fireworks show and everyone went home.
Next year's Burrito Festival promises to be just as wonderful as this year's. The Burrito Festival is one of Juarez's honoured traditions and although it is obscure to the rest of the world, it is a very interesting part of both their Mexican heritage and the history of the burrito.

The History of Burritos
July 31, 2006, 1:44AM

by: Burrito_Cult

In the very beginning, the human race was a nomadic tribe. They would wander the earth in search of food, never stopping in one place for very long. But, as time went on, they abandoned their nomadic lifestyle and began to experiment with agriculture, cultivating grains which they soon discovered could make a huge variety of breads.
These early bread bakers also grew vegetables and kept livestock. They soon discovered that it was more convenient to roll the meat and vegetables into the bread than to eat them separately. Someone who was on a long journey or who was hard at work would not have to take as long to eat if all of their food could be conveniently contained in bread.
Each culture has its own version of the burrito. The western world has sandwiches. The Asians have spring rolls and egg rolls. But, the Burrito is the original. The Aztecs have been making tortillas out of maize since before Columbus. They have been filling tortillas with vegetables and meat since 1520.
In conclusion to this essay, the burrito is the original fast food. It contains all of the nutrients needed for a healthy body. In Mexico they are eaten for all three meals of the day, and Juarez, Mexico, even has a Burrito festival every year. The Burrito truly is a superior food.

foundations of mathematics
July 29, 2006, 4:37AM

by: nothingmoves

Let me remind you of the problem of multiple reductions in the foundations of mathematics. The worry here is just that the plentitude of formally adequate foundational theories indicates that none could be correct -- the crucial assumption being that formal adequacy would be adequacy simpliciter. I shall argue that the worry here is ill-founded, and that one reduction stands out as being uniquely plausible.

Reduction in mathematics is not different in kind from reduction in empirical science. There are always competing theories that are formally adequate, but, in general, some are clearly better than others. For instance, general relativity and its euclidean analog are equally adequate to fit the data. But the former is plainly preferable to the latter since it allows the derivation of virtually all of macro-level gravitation theory from a few eminently simple assumptions. Similarly, the "theory" of arithmetic that includes every theorem (of Peano arithmetic) as an axiom is plainly adequate, but no less plainly inferior to Peano arithmetic itself. The latter allows the derivation of every proposition that the former took as primitive from a subset of 5 of those propositions. Such considerations are enough, i think, to cast doubt on the idea that the mere multitude of formally adequate foundational theories entails anything at all about whether any is correct.

However, it remains open whether it can be rational to endorse any of the relevant candidates in mathematics, as it can be rational to endorse one of the relevant candidates in, say, physics. And the answer is not obvious. Suppose, with most philosophers and mathematicians, that if any foundational theory is correct, then some brand of set-theory is. Then it is hardly clear that we have good reason to prefer one such brand to all others. Though Von Neumann set-theory is perhaps preferable to Zermelo on the grounds that the former is uniformly extendable to the transfinite, for instance, an isomorphic theory to it can be constructed in familiar ways. And, it's hard to see how any theory that is isomorphic to Von Neumann set-theory could be theoretically inferior to it.

But our supposition was silly, anyway. Property-theories also offer formally adequate reductions of our mathematical theories , and exactly one of these seems clearly preferable not only to its property-theoretic counterparts, but also to every brand of set-theory. In particular, a reduction of the cardinal numbers to cardinality properties of collections, and of the ordinal numbers to ordinality properties of sequences has both metaphysical and epistemic advantages. So, I conclude that those working in the foundations of math should retract their white flags. Not only is one of the relevant reductions plausibly correct, but we can, with some confidence, even say which one it is.

Enlightenment
July 26, 2006, 3:37PM

by: Satchell

I would like to propose a question. Why do we search far and wide for happiness? The two definitions for enlightenment I have come across is the achievement of nirvana through transcending desire and suffering (dictionary.com), and the awareness of being gained through meditation (wikipedia.com). I consider myself on the path to enlightenment and think it is a pretty cool place to be. I am here to share my thoughts on why.
I believe the answer is found in our upbringing. We are told that we must go out and find what we need in order to be content and happy. This notion is reinforced over and over again, especially with our capitalist government. We are grown into cute little consumers that feel the need to buy all this stuff in order to be content and happy. The closest picture of this attempt is going out on an Easter egg hunt with the egg taped securely on your hat and little cardboard eggs littered across a field. There is momentary joy brought from the discovery of a potential egg but that never lasts for a decent amount of time.
Real joy and contentment comes from giving up that search so you may find the real egg. This does not mean that you have to give up your urban life and go live in a cave up in bumfuck nowhere. You do, however need moderation in life to attain this joy. Give up TV for a week or whatever you are addicted to and learn to live without it. Watching a television show every once and a while wont hurt but sitting in front of it day in and day out certainly wont get you far. Enjoy where you are during every moment of the day. If you are eating then take your time and enjoy every bite.
This is such a simple solution to a horrifically widespread problem that it seems ridicules at first glance. It is not a process that is gained instantly. It definitely takes a serous amount of energy and willpower to work. Timing is also a key factor. You need to be ready for such a change to welcome it but the good news is that every single person can go through this change. Please dont think that I am saying that this is the only way to go. Many people claim to be perfectly happy with their lives and dont require such a change but it is definitely something I would recommend for those who dont want to settle with the daily schedule.
In conclusion, enlightenment is something that everyone can archive and can improve quality of life exponentially. You dont need to move anywhere or shave your head to do it either. I believe that if everyone became enlightened there would be no need for war because practically all fighting would be eliminated. All disputes could be settled peacefully, ending the arms race and the need for armies and in turn ending all war. People often feel the need to dwell on past sufferings and to gain revenge but this is simply an unnecessary thing. All pain, dishonesty, fear, rage and sadness can be eliminated forever in a very simple manner.

Disability
July 22, 2006, 3:59PM

by: Punk1989

I'm not going to sit here and dictate how someone should live their life according to others, i'll try not to give a biased view.

I know people are going to complain about this because they will say "You can't understand what it's like to be disabled"...and that's a fair statement, but i come from a family where i have several disabled family members, so i do know what it's like to live with a disabled person.

In this article i am going to write what it's like to live with a disabled person, a deep view into the feelings, the depression, the highs, the lows and the in-betweens where you just feel numb. Some days are harder than others, i wake up sometimes feeling so depressed that i just want to crawl back into bed and never get out again, i know that sounds emo, and frankly, i don't care, it's life.

My mother is disabled, my dad's twin is disabled, a few other family members may be, i'm not too sure. In this further article i am going to describe what happened years ago when my mother became one of many who become disabled when they were not born with a disability.

In 2001, in October, i was staying at an aunt's house overnight, and when i arrived back to my home in the next morning my Grand-mother came out and told me what had happened, but not to the full extent. The truth was, my mother had been sleeping 22-23 hours a day before they diagnosed her, and they just shrugged it off as a mental disease, but they where wrong, and it nearly cost my mother her life, and me a mother.

My mother had what was known as a benign brain tumor that was laying and pressing down on her Pituitary gland, which controls multiple bodily actions including the amount of hours we sleep. Nowadays she sleeps generally about 8 hours a day, which is common, so that's good. She also had diabetes, two different types, these conditions force her to take up to and including 20 tablets a day not including the insulin injection that she must take at night.

Sometimes, even today, i still break down and cry, and i'm not ashamed to admit it, lifes hard, its difficult, my mother has very limited vision, she can't drink alcohol and she very rarely gets out, which plays on my conscience when i'm out having fun, thinking of how shes sitting at home alone.

I used to cry, scream, take it out on others, when one day, maybe when i matured a bit, that i wasn't alone, there where others out there with harder lives than mine, so i got a grip, got on with it, and it's still hard to this day.

My mother has mood swings, she cries, she screams, but i know that it's not really that she means it, it's her medication and maybe not having a high enough sugar level. Arguments insue, but we always make up, because we both know that it's not really that shes angry, shes just frustrated at being like this.

I hope this article helps someone out there who is going through the same thing that i am, even if a parent isn't disabled, remember, tommorow they may not be here, i almost lost my mother, i was lucky...but you may not be so lucky.

Disability Related facts:

500 million people in the world are disabled (About 1 in 10)
300 million live in developing countries
140 million are children
160 million are women

Talkin' bout my generation
July 12, 2006, 12:36PM

by: colorofnightfall

How often has someone, a teacher or a parent perhaps, said to you 'in my day this would have never happened!' or 'kids these days are just no good!'? People from previous generations are constantly talking about how horrible the next is. How unbearable and unfruitful the children of this generation are. They blame the technology, the television, the economy and the government but never considered the problem with our generation is them.

The problems with every generation are imagined by the previous generations. People tell me how sorry they are that I am young at this time. That gas is more expensive and drugs are cheaper and that you have to buy bottled water. They never tell me how glad they are that I live in a time where the standard of living is higher or where I could travel internationally merely to enjoy other cultures. Yes, there are epidemics, highly destructive weapons and new means for criminal activity but every generation has faced their own trials. In previous generations we condoned slavery, denied women the right to vote, thought Elvis's sexuality was straight from the devil and had the CIA giving random people LSD because they were not yet aware of its long term affects. Every generation has had to face the modern problems before them and therefore every generation has to be strong in different ways.

The way children are now raised also sheds light onto the problems of this modern generation. In times passed if a child was hyperactive you sat them down and scared the fear of god into them and hoped they got over it. Now people are taking in ridiculously young children and saying they are hyperactive and need medicating. Small children are supposed to be hyperactive, unfortunately the generation before us was raised in the big psychology boom and thinks every problem needs a doctor's help. Obesity has become a plague because parents began using food as a reward instead of spending time with their children. Instead of taking a child to a park its so much easier just to buy them a scoop of triple fudge swirl and sit them in front of a television. To say the problems with this generation are inherent and it was something in the water is utter and complete bullshit. Thats the people who raised this generation trying to put the blame on anyone but themselves.

The media, the government and the PTA are pointing the finger at us. Telling us we are more violent, more self destructive, more uncontrollable than any other generation. What do you think they told the children on the sexual revolution in the '60s? or of the '80s party children? Everyone generation is the worst according to their predecessors. Every generation is remember for the changes they made in an almost fond way. My parents will talk about how they protested the war and lived like real hippies in the day but I bet their parents were less then enthused by it. I don't think our generation will be remember for its ADHD or its newer, harder drugs or its unwed teenage mothers. I think it will be noted for its progressiveness, its inclusion of all things new and its willingness to push the boundaries.

The Truth is in the Music.
June 29, 2006, 5:03PM

by: Homo_Tool_the_Prince

I am watching A Perfect Circle. And I want to cry.
I cannot understand what it is to hurt like Maynard. I can not understand what it is to hate like him.
But if I had a god, if I had an idol, it is Maynard. He is no god, not even an angel, but he is beautiful.
Maynard has a speaking voice that is annoying as all hell. He sounds like he's pinching his nose when he talks. I can barely listen to him talking at times.
His singing voice is the most amazing I've heard in all my seventeen years of human life. Certainly there may be some of you who know better, who see better and know more talent. Perhaps. But for me, for this one child sitting in front of this plasma screen in a condo in Chesapeake, Virginia with a five year old boy who is trying to sing "The Outsider" because he wants to make his sister smile, for this one girl who is no girl, this man, this one human being has more talent than any creature ever before to set foot in a recording studio, or indeed to open his mouth.
Maynard is not like your precious Billy Joe Armstrong, not like Lil' Jon or Paul Wall. He is not Gerard Way with makeup to make him pretty.
He is not God, not Satan, nor angel, nor demon. He is man, and he is flawed, maybe more than most.
He is damaged. He is damage itself in a greater manifestation than I can describe.
His damage, his flaws are beautiful.
He has talent like nothing I've ever known. Most singers, most vocalists cannot truly sing. If they can, it's usually nowhere as good live as on CD- not as good as their voice sounds electronically manipulated.
But Maynard....he doesn't sound as good live as he does electronically- he sounds better.
It scares me, really, how amazing his voice is.....and how driven he is. I have dreamed of possessing talent like that my entire life. At times it doesn't seem possible that he is human.
That's not to say, of course, that the rest of A Perfect Circle, and the rest of Tool, aren't damn near supernatural in their talent....because they, too, are scary in the amount of talent they have. I don't quite understand how human beings could have the degree of ability that the eight of them have ( APC and Tool), But Maynard is special to me because, of course, I am a singer.
....I don't expect some kind of awesome power from Maynard. He slips and falls and fails like I do, yes. I've heard his voice crack before. I know that he is no more unnatural than I am, than my sister's kid brother annoying the shit out of me behind me.
When I listen to Tool or to A Perfect Circle, I listen for Maynard to catch his breath. I listen for the sound of him gasping, catching his breath. Because that sound, more than anything else, is my proof that he is not an alien. Not a god.
He is human.
And that makes him more amazing than any magical power ever could.

MY THOUGHTS AND THE TRUTH ABOUT EMO's
June 29, 2006, 3:22AM

by: Frozen_Chaotic_Souls

Emos
Okay, so I don't think I've written up a rant about emos yet. That is actually quite surprising as to how much I really hate emos. Shall I start on my rant? Too bad, it's not your decision to make, however, it is mine, and I have chosen to rant. Too bad for those who didn't want me to start yet.

What is emo, you ask? An emo is:

"genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least three-fifths of the face at an angle"
Another way of putting it is:

"a group of white, mostly middle-class well-off kids who find imperfections in there life and create a ridiculous, depressing melodrama around each one. They often take anti-depressants, even though the majority don't need them"
Now, why would anybody in their right mind dare to think of even associating themselves with this style and genre of music? That's a question that still boggles my mind, and the worst part about it is that this style is becoming ever increasingly more popular in the world. What is this world coming to? I honestly don't know anymore, and I'm afraid to find out where exactly we'll be in 5 years.

Emos are the most self-centered people I can think of. They do nothing but bitch and whine about their lives and their emotions that should be non-existant, just like their problems. Emos fail to understand that EVERYBODY'S LIFE SUCKS. They're not the only ones with a problem. If they have a problem, plenty of people have had it before them. It's not a hard concept to grasp, yet each and every day millions of kids continue to MISS that concept. These kids need to WAKE UP. They're not the only ones with problems, and they have it nowhere near as bad as many more people. As the second definition above stated, most of these kids are coming from middle-class loving homes where most of their problems are a figment of their retarded imaginations. The fact that these numbers of teenaged morons is increasing daily just boggles my mind.

Emos tend to cling to their diaries and live journals like releasing their emotions is going to get them any sympathy. What kind of crap is this? Nobody wants to hear their melodramatic bs that they spew because they THINK that the world is out to get them. I honestly don't care to read about how they were dumped that day. They need to wake up and realize that plenty of others were dumped as well... THAT DAY. If they would search LJ and MySpace for those who had been dumped, they'd probably find plenty of others, except every other non-emo isn't complaining about how much their life sucks because of it and how the world is out to get them. They have the realization that the world continues to go around even if their heart is broken. They move on, they don't sulk over the same god damned problems simply because it hurts. Maybe they should take a step back and ask themselves WHY they were dumped. Maybe because of their bleek outlook on life? Maybe because wearing all black is a stupid statement of one's style? Because their music is filled with nothing but suicidal bs that only makes one feel WORSE after listening to it? The fact that crying about bs only makes you that much more of a wimp? I'm sure one or more apply to it, and I'm sure I've left out hundreds of reasons as to why they were dumped, but obviously they're too stupid to see it. Their diaries and live journals (and/or myspaces) are an emos best friend, and if anybody wants to see what it's like to be inside the heads of one of these idiots, you won't have to look very far on either live journal or myspace to find one.

Their clothing style is another stupid bs fad that these worthless teenagers have clinged onto. Who in their right mind wears all black? This goes for goths too, but that's another topic for another day. I mean, do you think you look good in nothing but black? Is this style to symbolize that their "mourning" over their bs lives? Are they all of a sudden hardcore because they're wearing all black? That's certainly not what I get from it. I see weakness in black. It tells me that they have no personality; they're just another souless drone in today's society feeding off of the mass produced bs that today's media is throwing at them. It tells me that they have no individuality. Their hair is absolutely horrible. It's greasy, long, and unwashed. It looks absolutely tacky, and only makes them look even more ridiculous. Their studded belts and tacky bracelets also add to their pathetic genre and style of mass produced bs.

Their music is even worse. It's got a horrible sound to it, and it makes you depressed just listening to it, and that's not even the lyrics. A couple of examples of their music would be Dashboard Confessional and From First to Last. Now, I don't suggest anybody actually go out and listen to them, but if you do, be prepared to desire to destroy your eardrums and never hear again due to the natural rancidity of their music. There's not much to say about their music other than it just sucks something horrible. I attempted to listen to it before, and I nearly drove myself insane trying to listen to that bs. If you're strong enough to not cringe at the sound, either you're stronger than I am, or you're deaf. Either way, I won't aspire to do the same.

The crying... oh, I probably shouldn't get myself started on this, but it's a rant, so what the heck?

These little pussies sit and cry because they can't handle all this "drama" and these "problems" that exist in their lives. I'm all for letting one's emotions out, but not when they're making up these emotions. Nothing is that bad where one has to sit and cry all day over these problems because they can't simply figure out that by sitting there crying about it, they're not making anything better. They could simply go out and do something else rather than sit and cry, but oh no, that'd be the SMART thing to do, and emos can never be counted on to do the smart thing. Instead, they feel that crying to one another is going to make things all better. Sorry to break it to them, but it won't.

Last thing I have to complain about is their cutting. Cutting themselves to feel better. How exactly does that work? "*cry cry* I'm going to cut myself because my life sucks." Cutting oneself is no solution to one's (non-existant) problems. That only shows they're just that much more weak that they must do physical harm to themselves to somehow feel better. If that's not the most retarded thing I've ever heard of, I don't know what is. These morons could just all do us a favor and remember to go vertically down their wrists, not horizontally. If they want to cut themselves, they might as well go all the way and kill themselves while they're at it. I don't need bs styles to pollute my future-kids' minds, and I sure as hell don't care to continue to look at these sad individuals. On second thought, anybody with a cut on their wrists inflicted by themselves needs to be locked into some insane asylum. At least this way we can maintain to protect the sanctity of life while removing these pests from today's society. Only in a perfet world would this happen, but such is not reality. The only thing we can do about it is to stay one step ahead of this trend and hope for its demise.

In conclusion, emos suck.

Religion = War?
June 28, 2006, 5:46PM

by: JudgeJudas

Now, this might not be the most unpartial "article" any of you have ever read here, but I do believe that most of the articles I see here always have an angle of some sort, and this one, ofcourse, is no exception.

Everywhere I go, look, read and hear, I hear people blaming this an that on religion, the most popular one is christianity, and islam has been a quite popular target after 11.sept 2001.
This might seem like a silly attack on some people(but ohwell, if you're offended, it's too bad for you), but here it goes:
I guess one of the reasons that people "hate"/"dislike" or/and are against christianity is because it makes them bad-ass, cool, true and all that crap, wich is ok if you want to impress somebody. But personally, that doesn't impress me much, not at all actually.

Now, I'm going to talk about what's on everybodies lips:
Is religion the cause of wars? Is it right to blame wars on churches, priests, believers and books?
I have no problem answering "No" to those questions, cause it's the truth.
Does anybody here believe that religion is a living organism with the power to control and force people to do something they don't want to do?
I didn't think so. So how can you then blame Religion for the wars, killings opressions, abuses and slaughters?
Right about now, I guess some people feel like saying "But it's the people who controls the religion who does those things", but that would be like blaming communism for what Lenin and Stalin did, or perhaps something more up to date like blaming democracy for the actions of George W. Bush and his administrationm or perhaps blaming Black Metal music for what Varg Vikernes did(to mention something, he was the one who killed Euronymous, if nobody knew that) or Marilyn Manson(s music) for what some of his/their listeners might have done. I guess most of you are able to see my point and where I was going with this.

Now, the most popular "hate-object"(especially amongst the people who are/want to be "true norwegian black metal" cliches) must be christianity, or so it seems, so I'll take a few examples of why people claim that they hate it oh so much.
Reason numbero uno: "It's the root of all evil!"
Number two: "Just look at the crusades."
Number three: "It's unnorwegian and not metal."
Number four: "Look at the witch-hunts."
Number five, and not so common as one should assume: "Look at the spanish inquisition."
So here it goes:
1. What a load of bloody bullshit(!). Does someone actually believe that the world and its people was sugar, spice and everything nice all the time before something about 28.A.C.? I'll come back to the real "root of evil" later on.
2. Yes, people went from one country under one rule(r) to kill people of another country under a different ruler. How original of them, ofcourse they wouldn't do that if it wasn't for christianity. Right, and I shit and piss flaming donkeys. People killing people, nothing new about that, and they sure as hell don't need religion too do that, all they need is an excuse, the imagination and the tools. This, ofcourse, is also connected to the real "root of evil".
3. Well, I just threw that one in there to prove there's alot of posers and cliches with that oppinion.
4. Oh yes, they were original to some point, although public executions have allways been adored by the public. Hangings, stonings, dismemberment, the guiliotine, drownings, firing-squads and everything else the king/queen/emperor/president/ruler, authority, judge and jury were able to come up with. There has allways been witch-hunts, but it wasn't necesary witches and warlocks. The point of the entire thing is to give the people an inner enemy that they could attack, that could still their lust and deisre for bloodshedding, torture and executions. People simply loved executions, France is a very good, probaly one of the best, examples on this, along with England and Germany. Ofcourse, I won't say that this didn't also include other countries, like f.ex my own country, Norway, where the vikings invented Blodrn(Bloodeagle), wich, easily said, involved cutting open certain parts of the back of the soon-to-be-executed and pulling the lungs out from the open wounds. To have enough executions, you needed people who could be sentenced to death, and to get enough of them, a witch-hunt was simply a must-have. To prove that they came long before, I can mention how the jews have allways been quite unpopular in europeen history, f.ex during the Black Plague, or the Roman Empire. The same goes for the christians upon something around 300-400 A.C. The coloseums, what were they used for again? Oh, public executions, and other "sports".
Or a more modern example of a witch-hunt(just to prove they lasted a whole lot longer) about Sovjet during Lenin, when 17.000 anarchists was hunted down and killed. Or maybe The McCarthy-period in the USA?
5. The spanish inquisition, in basic it's just the same as with the witch-hunts, pluss it was a good chance to give the leaders of The Church more money and power, and that's easily done when you get the people to fear something. To mix Torquemada with Jesus Christ is Idiotic(with a capitol I), it's like mixing oil and water, fire and ice. They are two opposites. Jesus(dislike him and question his exsistense all you will, but the the new testament was still written some years after his acclaimed death when the christian "cults" walked around and was cast to the lions) talked about peace, love and understanding, you can't deny that. Torquemada on the other hand, well, just check your history books about what he did.

Now, at last(or, I do believe this is the last part), I will tell you all(the few who are still reading) what the real "Root of evil" is. It's so bloody simple it almost hurts. Here it is: Mankinds inborn desire to dominate, rule and ofcourse the will for power. Think about it, all wars are about power. If you hit a person, you want to be the one in power. Power means nothing else but the possibility to control and dominate other people. Did really the Country A slaughter the people of Country B because they believed in another god, or because they got more power, more money, and even more power. Who benefited from the slaughter of the aztecs? Did God, Jesus and the Virgin Mary get more souls to roast in hell, or did the spanish church get earthly goods and, as mentioned earlier, more power.
Think of any war, anytime, or any slaughter, witch-hunt and so forth, and the reason is allways power, no exception. For some reason I got some sort of writers block at this moment, but I do believe I said most of the things I "needed" to say, more then once.
There are two huge, the biggest in fact, problems with humanity that create all of this mess.
1: People who automatically subject themselves to the majoritys(the rulers) will.
2: People who take great joy and pleasure in controlling others.

Madness is majority rule. I can't point it out enough, don't automatically believe what the majority tells you(!). If you're going to blame someone/something for war, blame the rulers and the majorities that blindly follow them.
