Hollidays, who needs them?
December 27, 2006, 1:08AM

by: Drkmtl

I'm not the type of person that likes the holidays. To me they are just a waste of time doing things people do every day to each other. Sure the kids love it but, why do it on a certain day? Every holiday is the same, you give to the ones you love, right? Well why cant you do it when its not a special occasion? Why do people have to be forced to give to others just because of an stupid holiday? Fact is an holiday is just a way for the economy to thrive and grow. Its just so people will go out and spend as much cash as they can, just to show that they care about someone. If the thought counts then do we all just feel so lonely that we have to make holidays and stupid idols like Santa, the Easter Bunny, and Cupid. Does it really make us feel better to celebrate a day and just give nonstop? Really cause I honestly don't see the big idea of it all. If you can explain it, please tell me, cause I don't think its all that great.

James Brown aka the Godfather of Soul
December 26, 2006, 5:33PM

by: XangelXmysticsX

James Brown passed away on Monday, December 25, 2006 at approximately 1:45 am ET. He was hospitalized on December 24 with severe pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He was 73.

James Brown has been attributed with "stirring up" many various types of music, from soul to funk to rap all through out the last five decades. He earned titles such as "the Original Disco Man" and "Soul Brother Number One" from his adoring fans. Songs such as "Say It Loud (I'm Black and I'm Proud)", "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" and "Get Up Sex Machine" have been blasted from eight track players, cassette players, CD players, and iPod/MP3 Players for three generations. When people speak of "classics", "Mr. Dynamite" is invariably always mentioned.

With his unpolished dance moves and scratchy voice the most popular singer of all time, rivaled only by Elvis. In his extensive career, James Brown amassed a total of 98 entries on Billboard's Top 40 R&B singles charts, a record currently unbeaten by any other artist. 'A charter member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Brown added to his collections of accolades when he received a special lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 1992' (http://www.classicbands.com/brown.html).

Needless to say, the Godfather of Soul will be remembered for many years to come. He is afterall the Hardest Working Man in Show Business.

Rest in Peace James Brown.

Stare into the void.
December 25, 2006, 8:33PM

by: Hooks_in_You

I have a problem. Not i specifically of course. But you, and others like you. What i really mean is we. We as people, we as a society as a whole have a very obscure and mundane problem. A problem while neither unique nor origional but nevertheless very real and in its own way is dangerous and in my opinion blasphemous. What is this problem? Global warming? Governmental corruption? Serial killers and child molestors? Nope. Psychiatrists.

Please hear my insane theory out. I've listened patiently to all of yours, its my turn to speak. The whole profession of psychiatry exists for one purpose, a purpose that freud should have realised, a purpose that all psychiatrists ought to realise but seem delightfully oblivious to. That purpose is to perpetuate (a word ill use ad nauseum) ignorance.

Before I get to their specific role I must mention that they are not the only instigators of ignorance. People, governments, and ideas have been doing it for years. Its all to do with the system of the human being. Unique creatures that we are, with our intellect came civilisation (or what passes for such) and with it came converse and all the foul counterparts such as isolation and introspection.
At some point someone realised that if you leave people isolated long enough, too much time to think.... the whole remarkable bleak reality of existence is discovered. The horrible secret that underlies the fabric of our universe. Insignificance.

The common response to realising that everything that you ever say or do is totally irrelevant- suicide. The heart of the matter. Every person instinctively reaches and grasps for concepts and distractions in order to forget and ignore the truth, and why not? Imagining that the human race were to end now and all that would be left after thousands upon thousands of years of life, is a handfull of monuments of egomaniacal figures and blueprints of how to split atoms. What a fuckin accomplishment. No really thats something special in the whole cosmos of things. We should be so proud. Even if there were other life forms out there, any information derived from our ruins and remains would be almost entirely redundant. Face facts. The universe would not even notice if we were gone. We're completely and utterly irrelevant.

Thats a harsh reality to face. Its no wonder everyone tries so valiently to block it out. Following insane cause after another, chasing dreams, obsessions, following ideals and concepts conceived for the purpose of keeping us from looking into the void.

Psychiatrists are a different matter though. It makes our ignorance no longer psychological but rather flesh and blood. These are people filling the shoes of distraction and mental trickery. They know the inner mind so that they can exploit it for one purpose the self perpetuation of society itself. This distinction is important. Its the difference between self restraint and imposed restraint. Deception at the hands of the more adept. Prevent them from staring into that black abyss.... thats not good for them.... i know whats good for them... i am god now... i can shape their minds how i choose.... how i am told to choose... turn them into who i am told to.... turn them into me.... into you... into one.... grand..... functioning well- oiled machine. The system. You dont know about the system? Society is a system, it is the system, symbiotic in all ways, every action enticing a perfect reaction.... thought only causes problems....

This sounds paranoid i know, but im sorry to tell you that this is very real. I didn't notice this. I am not a particularly thoughtful or intelligent person.... i could never spot something like this.... no... im afraid the credit goes to the prophets.... the ones who saw it, lived it, and tried to warn us all.... Bill Hicks, George Orwell, Lenny Bruce, Ken Kesey, Douglas Adams... so if you have any problems with this theory and wish to discuss it with me, then fuck you! Don't hassle me cause im not interested.... take up your umbrage with those dead heros, im just the messenger.

Though i do have something to add of my own.... perhaps you should stop. Just stop, everything, for an indeterminate amount of time. Forget about your family, your beliefs, your loved ones, your hobbies, forget your job, forget your health. Stare long and hard into the void, the abyss, that black all consuming darkness that goes on forever and realise that no matter what you do will never, ever matter. The greatest minds that have ever graced this planet have left only the faintest glimpses of themselves upon this world. The system itself has left only testaments to vanity and colourful toys upon this world. This one world of billions. This tiny speck of unimportance in an apathetic universe. Upon this speck, you are a speck... go on stare as long as you like, remember... nothing matters.

Towards Sid-Loving "Punk" Posers
December 25, 2006, 6:42PM

by: JudgeJudas

Oh yes, this article will involve "dirty and naughty" words, so all of you who doesn't like it, you have been warned.
Now read on or sod off.

Something that really annoys the shit out of my anus like an enema, is every time I see some fuckhead, some poser-ish wanker with "I luff Sid Vicious, RIP xD He's a legend and a god and omg he's hawt" spread out like excrement on their profiles. Or just people in general with an attitude like that. I won't even call it an opinion, it's an attitude, a poser-posture. I hate the entire "we can't write correctly even if our lives depended on it, so we make up idiotic words and act like dumbasses"-attitude, it's fucking irritating. Although I do have several spelling errors at times, and use ":P" and ":D" a lot, I at least know how to use propper grammar and punctuation, but this article ill not be about that, it will be about what I mentioned to begin with.

I will not write a biography for John "Sid Vicious" Beverley, if you are interested in reading one, you shouldn't have a hard time finding one. If you do so, I suggest you search for "Sid Vicious", as many different biographies uses several of his "real names". (Such as John Beverley, Simon John Ritchie, John Simon Ritchie and so on.)
What I will do on the other hand, is the important thing.
I will take the reasons why people "love" John, put them to the test and destroy them. I will not write this point by point, as I am just bitching as things pop into my head. I could probaly bitch about this for hours out loud with other people, but when I write, I seem to say less, for some odd reason.

Many people claim that "Sid" is the embodiment, the attitude of punk, and that is why they look up unto him. That is bloody bullshit. If, and only if, Sid was the image for punk, punk is a sham. And if punk is a sham, I will accept that ridicilous statement. But in my opinion, punk is not a sham. Punk is a simple genre of music, and it was meant to have a message, to actually mean something, which is something too many people seem to have forgotten, or simply missed. Punk as a music genre is raw power, but not braindead. Punk is a lifestyle, it is against conformity, it is anti-establishment. I won't say that Sid wasn't against conformity, I will not say that he was a sell-out. But he didn't have much to say during the end, now did he? Yeah, Belsen Was A Gas is actually an extremely well-written song, as far as the lyrics goes, and it shows he wasn't a braindead wanker.
But the embodiment of the thought and will of punk cannot be Sid, for the simple reason that he betrayed punk. As soon as he met that wretched whore Nancy Spungen, he ruined himself and several things around him. John "Rotten" Lydon, a close friend of Sid, often tried to help Sid with his drugaddiction. Of course, both Nancy and McLaren, manager (if one could call him that, it was his title, but he hardly did his job) of The Sex Pistols, kept this from happening, and only made things worse. By becoming a drugaddict, he betrayed punk, he became the clish, and if you are a punk-clish, you cannot be an actuall punk aswell. The symbol of Sid is good for one thing, it's a reminder of what I won't become. Sid is a tragic story, not a hero or a legend, and definately not a god, as many people say he is.
When I watch interviews with Sid when he was close toward the end, I can't help but feeling sorrow and pity for him. How can anybody see him as a hero? I mean, unless you want to be a doped up walking clish, how can you view him as an idol?

Sid could hardly play, and his solostuff isn't much to brag about either. I don't even need to go into his talent, or his lack of it, cause if you actually know anything about him (and not in the way that you know who he was, but that you know something about him, like a fan, or a critic with knowledge) , you should know about it, unless you are a fake.
He is no legend, no god, and no hero. He's an example of what one shouldn't become, how the shitstem will absorb anything just so they can make money of it.

Yeah, he looked good, considering the fact that he had the hygiene of a dumpster. But how the fuck could that possibly make him a hero? For example, Jessica Alba looks good, but there's no fucking way I would view her as a hero, or as a romantic fantasy in any way, just because of that. It's just trendy to have Sid as a hero, and if you do, it shows how little you know.
The fact that Sid looked good and hardly had anything to say, that he became a clish, made him so easy to absorb by the system/shitstem, by the trendwhores and posers.

The shitstem was able to make money of him, especially after his death, it's disgusting and pathetic. It's horrible. How fun for them.
John Beverly, rest in peace you poor sod.
My condolences to anyone who actually knew him, though I seriouslyb doubt any of them will ever read this.

Happy Holidays, You Crazy Kids
December 24, 2006, 5:23PM

by: eon

My best holiday wishes to all, whether you celebrate them or not. This has been a great and memorable year for me, thanks in no small part to many of you.

So, thank you. Kindly, I thank you.

This might sound a bit sappy, but...

Try and do something nice for someone between now and the New Year. Even if it's just a small thing, okay?

It will make you smile, I promise.

And remember, the resolutions are yet to come, so have yourself a bit of fun, too.

Happy Holidays, you crazy kids.

Eragon
December 16, 2006, 12:28PM

by: XangelXmysticsX

To start off- I have not read the book. I don't know how the movie was suposed to go... But I loved it. To me it was as good as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. So if you like at least one of those, then you'll like Eragon. The graphics were far better than either of the aforementioned movies.

My fiance read the books first and he said that he was expecting more... "well more". He said that if you've read the book, you can tell where the movie had to be compacted in order for it to make sense. He was only slightly disappointed in it because he wanted more but still contests that it was better than Harry Potter. :D I was hoping for more- as I've never read the books, I still have so many questions.

The ending of this movie could make it stand on its own. It doesn't have a cliff hanger ending (like Pirates of the Carribean 2). All in all, I think it was well worth the wait. And I would definately see it again.

A Rebel With a Cause - James Dean Tribute
December 13, 2006, 7:46PM

by: Murderous_Breeze

Live fast, Die young, and leave a good looking corpse For anyone who knows what this means, will certainly realize that this quote belongs to possibly the greatest cultural icon in acting history. James Dean. It is said that on the 8th of February 1931 a star was born, this in its own respect is true, but to look at it on a more global scale, and to see the after affect of his tragic death, and what hope and understanding he left, you will begin to realize that he is more then a star, but a teenage icon and undoubtedly the most inspirational character in Hollywood history.

This tribute and a sort of documentary I am writing about James Dean comes from a more personal level, he has helped me realize how good life is, and that if you want something so much, there is no one and nothing that can stop you.

Starring in only 3 feature films, and dying before his 25th birthday, James Byron Dean left behind a legacy, living forever young in the eyes of the world. He was a very complicated personality, in the words of his closest friends He didnt say much, but when he did, you knew it was sincere James Dean entered the acting scene in many short rolls and theatre plays, his main breakthrough came when he played the disciple John, in a religious show called Hill Number One.

The acting genius of James Dean would not stop their, after his first feature film, East of Eden starring Elizabeth Taylor hit the screens, in the words of the public it went Berserk. He was already a star, the next film, and my personal favorite would be Rebel without a cause, starring with Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo. But behind closed doors, James Dean was a very dark person battling his inner Demons. His mother died at the age of nine, and his father left him shortly after to live with relatives. The one thing that Dean always wanted in life, and even in his own words, would trade anything for, was a father figure. He wanted that father he never had, he wanted someone to play basketball with and to talk to and that can understand him.

He was a very enthusiastic artist; he was poet and enjoyed relaxing with books, he also was very interested in photography. But his passion above all else was acting, and in my opinion, and the millions of critics and fans across the world, and the more websites then any classical actor ever, all of them says that he is the best, and did it better then anyone else.

When Im behind the wheel of my Porsche going 90 miles down the road, and the wind blowing my hair, I feel more alive then ever, its a feeling nothing else gives me James Dean in a interview about the new Porsche Spyder he purchased 2 weeks before his death. On September 30th, 1995, a 24 year old James Byron Dean was making his way to Salinas for a road match, in Californias Central Valley with his brand new Porsche.
It was the last time the world would ever see such a character, such a personality, such genius, such enthusiasm.

Their has hardly been an actor since who has not been influenced and inspired by his work, like so many legends, he died young. The young man from rural Indiana could have never dreamed of such accomplishment.
Dream as if youll live forever; live as if youll die today James Dean

Shifting the blame...
December 12, 2006, 5:33PM

by: Mynd-Phyx

So, I'm sure everyone knows, or at least has heard about this protest against extremely thin fashion models, being taken up as role-models. And so, kids start to starve themselves just to look like those models.

Which I'm getting tired of for a number of reasons.

One, people don't like to make fun of fat people, because it might hurt their feelings, and that it's not their fault, or simply that it's rude. But, by exploiting models, and making models look like the bad guys, their doing the exact same thing.

Their calling these models the 'McDonald's' of the fashion world basically. It's like "Oh well you're skinny and my daughter wants to be skinny, so it's your fault!" and can be compared to "Oh well you make fast food that my daughter wants, so it's your fault!" trick is, we all laugh at the second statement... I thought that was a bit backwards...

Fat people have weight issues because they have eating disorders or tendencies driving them to eat more. Thin people have weight issues because they have eating disorders or tendencies driving them to eat less.
[Found that one fun...]

There are also some psychological issues with a girl who wants to starve herself just to look like the woman in the magazine. Somewhere, the parents really fucked up. And now that kid is really fucked up. It's not some models fault.

But it all comes down to, shifting the blame. It's taking one thing, and then calling it something else. "It's not skinny, it's anorexic" or "It's not slender it's scrawny." Which is trait number 1 in jealousy. Taking one thing, and calling it another. If everyone were just that thin, there would be no issue with it. But since we have McDonalds and cars, super skinny models must have cheated or something like starved themselves.

[This little rant came about because Dr.Phil is a manipulative bastard... Lol, I'm not even joking just watch the show and see how he twists things around to make himself the hottest thing among 30+ year old housewives.]

Online Communities
December 11, 2006, 6:47PM

by: DefendYou

Well I know this seems like a dumb thing to write about but I think that it needs to be brought to attention. People go through alot of abuse while being apart of an online community. During this day and age people are starting to believe that online is just the same as reality. Which in a way is true but only to a certain extent. But other people believe that it is their entire reality and using their knoledge of "their reality" can use it against other people. I know that there are so many people involved in online communities but there are so many pro's and con's about them. I, myself are apart of numerous online communities such as: Darkstarlings, Nexopia, Myspace, Vampirfreaks, and numerous band forums. But there is one website in particular that has such abuse that has come to my attention.

Myspace has millions of profiles. But the way people look at myspace is like it is the best thing to have happen to them since sliced bread. Not true. Sure they think that they can gain fame and popularity over this website. Which can be true but the chances of this happening are slim to none. I believe that people are too blind to see this but myspace is just an online popularity contest even less mature than highschool. it feels like being back in elementary school again. it seems you get your popularity by being "whored". A cruel term used in reality to sell your body for money. Wow it seems we learn something new on the internet everyday. I have not heard this term used on any other website except myspace. And it seems to be bringing good thoughts on such a negative topic to the mind of all the users. Who honestly would like to be "whored out". Not me and everyone I know wouldn't want to be whored. So why would people use it as a good thing? Joking about prostitution is like joking around about the holocaust. Neither should be taken likely.

The worst part about this website is that just by having thousands of friend you are considered famous or a "myspace legend". Who really wants to be a legend on a website. Who really cares that they have thousands of friends. The majority of people I know on that website just use their friends to make more friends and so on and so forth. Its just a vicous cycle of back stabbing and competition. Just like highschool. I didn't think that people could go through such abuse on website until it happened to me on myspace. If you dont look a certain way your a loser, if you dont act a certain way (a complete asshole or bitch to everyone you talk to) your uncool. I dont see how people can be apart of such a degrading thing. The way I grew up if people didn't like you for who you are then dont bother with them...but myspace has changed the world not for the better but for the worse.

A good thing about myspace though is that it has band profiles. Which is pretty sweet. You go on the profile...listen to samples of music the band has and you can comment about it or download it. But now that is getting ruined too. The more these "scene" kids comment the band and their music the more popular they get and they will end up getting signed and all. Which is good for a struggling band but a completely stupid way of doing it. The band shouldn't get signed because of a bunch of little kids saying they are cool. In order for a band actually realise what its like to work hard they have to start from scratch. The website is so biased its not funny. If the band wants to get popular fast all they have to do is make friends with a "popular" person. And from there the person will then recomend the band and or "whore" the band out to people.

I believe the website used to be fun until the "scene" became huge. Now it is runed by a bunch of highschool outcasts who take fucked up picture and give themselves name which dont make sense. To be someone reality is one thing but to re-create yourself to be what everyone else likes is another. Thats how the website is ran. If your a big loser at school...change everything about you and then you can tell other people whether or not they are cool.

I honestly just wish the people of myspace would just grow up and mature a little bit. Their life isn't the internet so think about that. Realise that just because your not popular in school doesn't mean you can tell people what is wrong with them on the internet. Just stop the stupidity and grow the fuck up.
